Global Competitiveness Report: US is #7 down from 5

If you are interested in national competitiveness or in foreign direct investment then the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report for 2012 -2013 will be interesting. I have been reading them for years and the criteria have changed but the general theme of the result is the same.

The United States is ranked the seventh most competitive nation and that is down from five in the previous edition. The country data is very interesting and you can watch the ripples from the financial crisis still in them. Europe and particularly Greece and Italy make for interesting reading but the eastern European nations have some fascinating energy and promise.

The Top 10 most competitive economies according to the report…

  1. Switzerland
  2. Singapore
  3. Finland
  4. Sweden
  5. Netherlands
  6. Germany
  7. United States
  8. United Kingdom
  9. Hong Kong
  10. Japan
